Asia de Cuba

We all know Asia de Cuba, even if our memories of the late '90s are a bit hazy. The preferred birthday destination of aging NYC singles and 40-something divorcees is actually completely unaffiliated with this Puerto Madera supper club with a remarkably similar yet completely unaffiliated concept. Lacking the hipster element of Palermo or refinement of Recoleta, Puerto Madera can feel a bit touristy by day and yet remarkably up market by night especially for Faena Hotel guests who don't have to take a 15-minute cab ride to get some nightlife. The interiors are decorated in an Argentine interpretation of Indonesian chic with a horizontal Buddha sprawled out over a long bar and main dining with serpentine columns above shiny stone floors. Seating areas are arranged amongst settees upholstered in champagne-colored crushed velvet better suited for a size-16 prom dress than modern nightclub. Sparkly crystal chandeliers offset the bling of a mostly over-30 crowd of local singles and party-minded tourists in search of nightly deejays spinning hip-hop, electronica and funk. 

Tips

Skip the food and come after dinner for weekly DJ nights and weekend dance sessions attended by BA celebrities and visiting socialites.

Last Word

While Starck it is not, this Asia de Cuba is an independent social supper club that attracts hot over-30 singles in BA’s Puerto Madera.
